OVERVIEW

21st UN-Climate Change Conference’s (COP21) Paris agreement milestone to recent 26th UN-Climate Change Conference (COP26) continue to call for global action to prevent temperatures from rising above 2 degrees Celsius is crucial to reach net zero emissions by 2050. Malaysia is committed to be a carbon-neutral country in 2050 at the earliest. One of the initiatives to achieve this is through the plan of setting up a domestic emissions trading scheme and voluntary carbon market focusing on forestry and land use.

Following the recent launch of the Securities Commission’s Capital Market Masterplan 3 (CMP3), one of the strategic priorities is aimed at facilitating industries and businesses to transition to low carbon activities, which will enhance their relevance and competitiveness in the global market.
