CEO, Securities Industry Development Corporation

at the MoU Signing Ceremony between SIDC & ACCA
Securities Commission, Kuala Lumpur

Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri-Tan Sri, Dato’- Dato’, Datin - Datin, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen and members of the media.

A very good afternoon to you all and welcome to this MOU signing ceremony.

I am delighted that we have with us today Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Zarinah Anwar, Chairman of the Securities Commission and the SIDC and Mr. Allen Blewitt, Chief Executive Officer of ACCA worldwide to give keynote addresses and witness the signing of this historic MOU between ACCA and SIDC by Tay Kay Luan, Chief Executive of ACCA Asia-Pacific and myself.

I strongly believe that this historic collaboration of SIDC with the ACCA is only right and proper as both our organisations are recognized brand leaders in our respective fields of expertise.

Working closely with the ACCA is a natural choice for the SIDC now that we are no longer part of a regulatory body. We are free to choose training partners with whom to develop programmes and the ACCA’s mission, vision, values and aspirations dovetail neatly with ours both in Malaysia and in the ASEAN region. The ACCA has an excellent track record in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and the SIDC has an equally strong track record in Continuous Professional Education (CPE) for our respective target universes. It is therefore natural that we should seek to leverage our skills and audiences to everyone’s advantage – truly a case of “win-win” for both parties.

SIDC and ACCA believe strongly in the importance of good governance and ethical business, and both organisations are committed to enhancing the quality of decision-making at board and senior management level, so it is natural that we should begin our collaboration with programmes that address these areas of business practice.

We are working together to deliver the Diploma in Financial Management designed to help non-finance directors improve their financial and risk management skills and also to raise their awareness of the importance of ethical practices in business. In addition we are also working together to organize leading-edge conferences and seminars to address current issues in the capital market. Finally we will be working together in the development of a new “Professional Ethics” programme tailored to the needs of the Capital Market based on an on-line programme already developed by the ACCA.

SIDC is proud to work with the ACCA and to become a strategic partner for Malaysia and ASEAN. I look forward to many years of successful collaboration to mutual advantage.

Thank you.
