Are there any pre-requisites or education requirements for me to sit for licensing examinations?

There are no pre-requisites to register for any licensing Examinations. However, there are pre-requisites in applying for a licence. These pre-requisites are detailed in the Licensing Handbook.

Is there any course that I can attend to prepare myself for licensing examinations?

SIDC conduct examinations preparatory courses for Modules 6, 7, 12 & 15. We also conduct relevant capital market related seminars and workshops. For more information, please refer to our website.

Is it compulsory for me to attend the preparatory course before I register for the examinations?

It is not compulsory for you to take the preparatory course, you can choose to self-study.

How can I get a copy of the examination study guides?

The Examination Study Guide, where applicable, is available at our SIDC Shop which is located on the Ground Floor of the SC building. First sitting candidates who register for an examination would be entitled to a 20% discount of the retail price. Re-sitting candidates or members of the public who wish to purchase the study guides without registering for any of the examinations can purchase the study guides at the normal retail price, which varies according to modules.

How many times can I sit for the examinations? Is there any limit?

No, SIDC does not limit the number of times a candidate can attempt the licensing examinations.

Where can I purchase the updated Prescribed Reference Materials (PRM) for the rules and regulations examination?

The SC’s acts, regulations, guidelines, codes and practice notes are available on the SC’s website. Alternatively, some of these references are available and can be purchased from SIDC Shop.

What will happen if I am unable to attend the examination because of medical reason?

In the event that you are unable to attend the examination for medical reasons, you are allowed to defer the examination to another date with a penalty fee of RM50 per module. The original (or certified true copy) of the medical certificate, together with SC Licensing Examinations Form with original signature and with payment, must be received by SIDC within three (3) full working days from the date of the examination.

What will happen if I am unable to attend the examinations due to death of an immediate family member?

In the event of absenteeism due to death of an immediate family member (spouse, child, parent, parent-in-law, grandparent, brother, sister only) occurring within seven (7) days prior to the examination date, you are allowed to defer the examination to another date. A copy of the death certificate, together with SC Licensing Examinations Form with original signature, must be received by SIDC within five (5) full working days from the date of the examination.

How frequent are the licensing examinations conducted?

The licensing examinations are offered on a weekly basis (please refer to the examination schedule). However, seats are limited and therefore registration is based on first-come first-serve basis.

Are all examination modules available on every scheduled examination date?

Yes, all licensing examination modules would be available on every scheduled examination. However, registration would be subject to availability of seats.

How do I register for the examinations?

You have to obtain a copy of the SC Licensing Examinations Form from the SIDC Shop or SIDC’s website. The form is to be completed and submitted to SIDC by hand or post together with full payment of the examination fees before the registration closing date.

When is the closing date for the registration?

The closing date for examination registration is three (3) full working days (excluding weekends and Public Holidays) prior to the date of the examination (please refer to the examination schedule for last registration date).

What happens if the examination dates selected are not available?

You will be registered based on your 1st choice of examination date indicated in the registration form. If your 1st choice is not available, you will be registered based on your 2nd choice In the event the seats for the date indicated as your 2nd choice be unavailable, we will be contacting you for alternate dates.

What are the payment modes for the examinations registration?

Payment can be made by cash, credit card (Master and Visa only), cheque, bank draft or money order. Payment by credit card is only applicable for walk-in candidates to the SIDC shop. Cheque, bank draft or money order should be crossed and made payable to SECURITIES INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION.

Can I defer my examinations?

Yes, you can defer your examination to another date at a fee of RM 50 for each module. Deferment will be processed upon receipt of the SC Licensing Examinations Form with a replacement date together with payment not later than five (5) full working days (excluding weekends and public holidays) prior to the date of the examination (please refer to the examination schedule for last deferment date).

Can I cancel my registration?

Yes, you can cancel your exam registration by submitting the SC Licensing Examinations Form which must be received by SIDC not later than five (5) full working days (excluding weekends and Public Holidays) prior to the date of the examination (please refer to examination schedule for last cancellation date). A penalty fee of RM 100 will be imposed for each module and balance of the examination fee (if any) will be refunded to you.

If I cannot attend the examinations on the scheduled examination day due to an emergency, can I be replaced by someone else?

No, you cannot be replaced by someone else. If you fail to attend on the examination day, you will be considered ABSENT and your examination fee will be forfeited.

The address provided in my examination registration form is no longer correct as I have moved to another premise. What should I do so that my results reaches my new address?

A written notice should be sent to SIDC to inform on the new address before the examination day.

There are no past years’ questions available but there are some sample questions available in the various study outlines, CBE simulation and Examination Study Guides.

What is the language and format of the licensing examinations?

All examinations are offered in English and in Multiple Choice format (MCQ).

What is the mode of delivery of the licensing examinations?

The licensing examinations are conducted via a computerised system. A simulation has been made available on our website to assist candidates in familiarizing themselves with the computer-based examination (CBE) system. You are encouraged to attempt the simulation prior to your actual examinations.

What should I bring with me for the examinations?

You are required to bring along a valid proof of identity namely, your NRIC if you are a Malaysian or Passport if you are a foreigner and non-programmable calculators. Those who fail to produce a valid identification will not be permitted to sit for the examination. (Please refer to the Examinations Terms and Conditions for more information).

How do I know where I would be seated during the examination?

The information sheet on the seating arrangement will be placed outside the examination centre on the day of the examination. You can find your seat by referring to your name.

What is the dress code?

The dress code is office attire. You are not allowed to wear round neck T-shirts, jeans, slippers and sport shoes.

When will I get my examination results?

You will be given the interim examination result upon the completion of the examination and your official result will be posted on the third (3rd) working day (excluding weekends and public holidays) from the date of the examination. For examinations held at outstation venues, the official result slip shall only be posted out on the third (3rd) working day from the LAST date of the examination.

If you wish to collect your official result personally, you are required to complete the Examination Result Collection Form and hand it in to the invigilators on the day of the examination. The Examination Result Collection Form would be available at the Examination Centre on the examination day.

Will the result slip reveal my score?

No, your result slip will only state whether you PASS or FAIL.

How long are the examination results valid for purposes of licensing?

Examination results are valid for two (2) years from the date of passing each module.

In the event I lose my result slip, can I get another one?

Yes, you can request for a duplicate copy of your result by completing the Examination Result Duplication and Performance Analysis Form and submitting it to SIDC by hand or post, together with a fee of RM20 per copy.

Is there any way for me to find out how well/badly I have performed in an examination?

Yes, you can request for the performance analysis of your examination within six (6) months from the date of the examination by completing the Examination Result Duplication and Performance Analysis Form and submitting to SIDC by hand or post, with a non-refundable fee of RM75 per module. The performance analysis will indicate your performance (in terms of range of percentage) in each section as per the table on maximum composition of questions in the respective module’s study outline.

Can I submit a request for my result to be re-checked?

Yes, you can. Appeals can be made to SIDC within two (2) months from the date of the examination. All appeals should be submitted to SIDC in writing with a non-refundable fee of RM75 per module. Your examination results will be reviewed and released as either “PASS” or “FAIL” only. Appeals can only be made after candidates have received the official examination result slip. All decisions made on appeal shall be final and no further appeals shall be entertained.

If I need to re-sit Module 15 and choose to sit for the new rules and regulations modules instead, do I qualify as a re-sitting candidate?

Yes, candidates who had previously sat for Module 15 are eligible for re-sitting fees when they register for any of the new rules and regulations modules (i.e. Modules 19, 19A or 19B)

I have never registered for Module 15. Which fee do I need to pay if I intend to register for Modules 19A and 19B?

You will be registered as a first sitting candidate for both Modules 19A and 19B and would have to pay a total of RM 400 (RM 200 x 2 modules) to sit for both modules.

I have registered to sit for Module 15 in June 2008 and wish to sit for one of the new rules and regulations modules instead. Can I defer my Module 15 examination to after August 2008 and sit for the new rules and regulations module?

Yes, you are allowed to defer provided you meet the existing SC Licensing Terms and Condition for deferment (i.e. forms should be received by SIDC not later 5 full working days) and pay the deferment fee of RM 50.

What if I have passed Modules 12 & 15 but am not yet licensed, are my results still applicable?

As a general rule, the official result graded “PASS” is valid for two years from the date of the examination for that particular module. Please refer to the Licensing Handbook for exemption on the general rule on the validity of licensing examination.

Are there any changes to Module 12?

No. Module 12 will remain the product module for both Capital Market Services Representative’s Licences (CMSRL) for Advising on Corporate Finance and Investment Advice.

Is there any study guide for the new rules and regulations modules (Modules 19, 19A & 19B)?

There are no study guides specifically for Modules 19, 19A or 19B. Candidates should refer to the list of the Prescribed Reference Materials (PRMs) as stated in the SC Licensing Terms and Conditions or the applicable study outlines for the respective modules.
